Massacre Haunted House: An Excellent, Terrifying Scare

The 40-Minute Drive is Worth it for This Previous Winner of Best Haunted House in Illinois

Have you ever been spooked before?

On October 15, 2023, I went to a haunted house called Massacre Haunted House, located at 299 Montgomery Rd., Montgomery, IL 60538. The Massacre Haunted House in Montgomery, IL, is one of the best-rated haunted houses in the state. It was quite a distance, being about 40 minutes away from Berwyn. Planning the time and day I went on a Sunday, which tickets were less compared to any other day. The general admission for a Sunday is $29.99 compared to a Saturday, when it is $34.99. The experiences and emotions of being there were such rollercoasters.

Walking into the entrance of the haunted house, you see the line leading up, not knowing what could happen or what could pop out to you and scare you. Being outside in the line went by in a flash and was entertaining. Never turn your back or something, or someone will be waiting. Many workers with makeup and costumes dressed up as clowns, monsters, and your worst nightmares. As you get closer to the haunted house, you begin to enter the lobby.

Walking into the lobby, there was still a line inside, with a bunch of people and a DJ playing music to dance to and attractions. Walking in, they set you up to take pictures, which you can later purchase and take home for a good memory. As you get closer to entering the haunted house, they scan your tickets, and that’s where the scares all begin.

Walking in, they placed me and my family in a closet-like room with so much steam and seats to enjoy an audio recording that was playing in the room. Listening to the audio recording was like listening to the last thing you would ever hear. Being in the room with the lights off and the smoke blowing in your face, you could feel the suspense. As we were getting out of the room, we began to walk and slowly approach the darkness. This is where all the screaming and ducking down began. Hearing screams and loud noises and seeing shadows in the corner, which had workers scarring you and sneaking up, as well as yelling in your ear, going further down the rooms, you start to enter thematic rooms such as a clown room, a satanic room, and doll rooms. They had many more walking through with my group.

The haunted house walk was around 40 minutes long. Walking through the long halls and scary rooms, there were many statues. I wish there were more workers and entertainers. They had very few staff, scaring you; maybe if there were more staff, it would be more entertaining. The experience for the price was such a steal. Having to go through all the halls and doors was a fun yet terrifying experience. The staff would get up in your face and scream, as well as follow you through the haunted house.

Other than the staff, there were so many details in all the rooms that looked so realistic. For example, the clown room had so much detail, making you feel like you were in a circus, as well as a satanic room all dark with red lights and so much detail, making everything come to life. Other than the staff, the steam and smoke would blow in your face so hard, making you feel like you were possessed and shocked. Towards the end, the staff would chase you out towards the exit, where you could buy merchandise and pick up your pictures that were taken in the lobby. They had so much merchandise and a stand of food leaving the haunted house, just in case you were hungry. Overall, the experience was amazing. If you want to get spooked, you now know where to go.
