It’s that time of year again! Chicago is yet again hosting its 88th thanksgiving parade down State Streets from Ida B. Wells Drive to Randolph Street. The parade will take place on Thanksgiving day from 8am to 11am. Save the date and come on down to enjoy floats, music, and so much more!

The parade is free and people can enjoy the festivities and get in spirit for the holidays. There is VIP seating that you can purchase for $60. If you cannot make it down, the parade will be broadcast live on channel CW26.

Some interesting facts about the parade:

  1. It was it was originally created in 1934 to uplift the spirit of Chicago residents during the Great Depression.
  2. It started off as a Christmas caravan but was then moved to Thanksgiving day.
  3. In 1969 the Chicago Tribune reported there were about 1.5 million people lined up for the parade.
  4. The Chicago Thanksgiving parade is said to be one of the nations largest and most popular Thanksgiving Parade, behind New York’s Macy’s Parade.
  5. This years parade will include over 19 different marching bands, the classic Teddy the turkey balloon, Santa Claus, dancers and more.

This parade has been a memorable tradition for Chicago and hopefully will be for years to come. From people driving in from out of the city, to city residents attending, this parade brings people together to kick off the holiday season.
