As the Morton Mustangs track and field team start to enter the era of second semester, spring break weather and the last couple months of school, our indoor track season seems to also be coming to an end soon within these next few weeks for our boys and girls.
This past Saturday, March 15th 2025, both the boys and girls track teams competed in their last indoor track meets before their indoor conferences. Although they will be closing the doors on their indoor track season, it only awakens their outdoor season with many more great scores to come from our track stars.
We asked some of our fellow mustangs how they felt this past Saturday as they competed and how confident they are feeling they will do in their performances this weekend.
Senior Shot Put thrower, Devyn Woywod expressed confidence as the season closes.
“I am feeling good about conference and believe my performance from this past Saturday, coming in third, set high expectations of what is hopefully to come at conference. I feel like seeing two teams at our home meet on Saturday that are in our conference, showed us what to be prepared for and who we need to look out for at conference this Saturday”. Woywod is setting high hopes for our girls this Saturday at Willow Brook high school and is in hopes of a good outcome no matter how pleased she might feel within herself.
We asked our boys star pole vaulter, Alan Rivera, how his performance left him in hopes for his pole vaulting conference on Tuesday, March 18th 2025. Rivera expressed to us how he feels “very good with my performance from this past Saturday, placing first although I wish I did better. I feel like my conference might be a lot easier since it’s at our home track. Performing at Morton I feel is safer for me as being away can affect your performance but overall I’m feeling very excited for what’s to come this Saturday.”
[Update: Rivera set a new personal record of 12 feet and took first place at conference on Tuesday.]
Finally, we asked our boys captain, junior Abdul Rizwan, how he is feeling for his conference this upcoming Friday. Rizwan conveying how he is “feeling confident heading into conference knowing he just has to trust his training and execute with everything.” Rizwan continues to explain how he wants to “set a PR or at least be in the mix for top finished. as for my team, I know that we have the talent and the work ethic to compete at a high level. though winning the whole thing isn’t easy, if we all show up and perform how I know we can then have a real shot.”
