On Saturday November 4th, 2017, Morton Cheer and Drum line proudly stood by with guests eagerly anticipating the grand opening of City Barbeque restaurant, located at 7108 Cermak Rd, Berwyn.  It’s an establishment famously known for its Southern-style barbeque. Important Chicagoland elites that attended the event include Berwyn’s very own Mayor Robert J. Lovero, Cicero Mayor Larry Dominick, and Oak Park Mayor Anan Abu-Taleb.  Berwyn’s and Cicero’s Fire and Police Department personnel also attended the event.

New employees of the restaurant welcomed their first guests.

The City Barbeque grand opening began promptly at noon with the famous red ribbon cutting ceremony. Shortly after, the real fun began. The festivities started with Morton’s Drum Line performing and promoting outside of City Barbeque, grabbing guests’ attention and excitement. There was a Build Your Own Taffy Apple stand which everyone adored and enjoyed. Next to the apple stand was a piggy dunk game which included the most adorable little toy piglets which all the children and adults were able to win and keep. Later, there was a rib-eating contest, and competitors included two Berwyn police officers, three Berwyn firefighters, and one Cicero citizen. The winner was Berwyn police officer Bill.  Morton Cheer performed right after, really pumping up the crowd.  Despite the rainy weather, every customer enjoyed the day and savored the amazing food.

Police officer Bill won the rib-eating contest.
