Just as students at Morton West in 1980 and 1981 might marvel at the cellphones, Promethean boards, and AI of today, current students are shocked at the way life was for students of the MTV generation. In Morton Flashback, The Sterling gives you a snapshot from the 1980-1981 archives of The Falcon, the former news publication of Morton West.

The Morton West Library Media Services and Fine Arts divisions announced their sponsorship of a contest to design a logo to be used by Library Media Services in conjunction with Illinois Arts Week of 1980. Mrs. B. Schloeder, librarian, stated that the winning design would be used on all communications, such as stationery and letterhead, and that the library would eventually incorporate the logo in books and in all print and print media.
The Morton West Theatre program announced rock musical “Godspell” as the Fall production of 1980. The musical’s score would be performed by professional musicians instead of students, and casting auditions saw more than 100 students try out for 20 roles. Technical Director Mr. T. F. Meyer noted that the musical incorporated improvisational settings, and that cast members would venture into the aisles during parts of the show to perform.
The Morton West Falcons football team lost 20-0 to the Hinsdale South Hornets on Sept. 27th, 1980. Running back Ed Olewinski was held in check, as the Falcons fell to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. It was their first loss of the season, after recording a 14-0 win the previous week against the Glenbard East Rams.
