A Bittersweet Night At Morton West

The Morton football team celebrated its seniors during a special Senior Night ceremony at the home game against Leyden on Friday, October 10th. Before kickoff, each senior was recognized in a heartfelt pre-game ceremony, walking out onto the track surrounded by family, friends, and their closest supporters. The crowd cheered as names were announced, and emotions ran high as players hugged loved ones and reflected on their final season with the team.

The energy carried onto the field as Morton played with heart and determination. Senior players stepped up throughout the night, making key plays and showing strong leadership. Quarterback Jaleel Windfield had an outstanding game, including a powerful rushing touchdown that energized the crowd. Senior Lennox Emon also made an early impact, scoring a touchdown in the first half to put six points on the board for the Mustangs.

For many players, the night was emotional and reflective. “The night of Senior Night felt like a dream,” said senior CJ Stokes-Chew. “I’ve been playing since freshman year, and it made me think about how hard everybody worked and how much we all grew.”

CJ, like many of his teammates, has spent the past four years dedicated to the Morton football program—pushing through early morning practices, tough losses, and unforgettable wins. The ceremony was more than just a walk across the track; it was a moment of realization that their high school journey was coming to an end.

Senior Hristo Melo also reflected on the significance of the night. “It doesn’t feel real, like it all went by too fast,” he said, standing on the field after his final home game. “My favorite experience was probably this night.”

For Hristo, like many of the seniors, Senior Night was more than just a game—it was the culmination of four years of dedication, sacrifice, and growth. The cheers from the crowd, the support from family and friends, and the brotherhood shared with his teammates made the night unforgettable. The emotions were raw, but the memories made will last a lifetime.

The night ended with a hard-fought loss, but the scoreboard didn’t define the evening. What truly mattered was the recognition and celebration of Morton’s senior players. As the final whistle blew, they were met with cheers, hugs, and heartfelt congratulations from family, friends, and staff—each one showing just how proud they were of the seniors and all they had accomplished.

Though their time in a Morton jersey is coming to an end, the impact these players have made on the program—and each other—will carry on. Senior Night was not just a goodbye; it was a tribute to the journey, the growth, and the brotherhood that defined their high school football careers.
