From March 20th – 22nd, Morton East Theatre capped their finale of the year with the hit musical, Mean Girls The Musical!!! A show about the authentic and dark side of high school, and watching the world burn. These aspects of a musical makes a high school production turn into a scarily realistic one… and East Theatre couldn’t have had a better conclusion for this school year!
Before Mean Girls, they did a production of the play “Musical Comedy Murders of 1940”, and it was only since the End of last year that the final East production of 2024 – 2025 was announced to be Mean Girls: the musical, one of the award winning musicals in Broadway.
This cast was filled with funny, talented, and authentic performances, with many talented singers, and almost fully convincing actors, ones that really feel like their characters. East is one of those theatre programs where you sometimes forget that they’re actors, and feel immersed in the character and performance of it all, and Mean Girls was no exception!
“It was FABULOUS! not only does it tell a great story, but it’s also an entertaining performance, and the actors are funny!” said Valeria Dueñas, an audience member AND Stage West member.
Many of the East kids in this production were seniors, and this musical acted as their grand finale on the impact that they left in not only Morton East Theatre, but most of the school district and family members that attended it. This production was also an emotional bye-bye to many seniors who played for a big majority of their school years.
“Mean Girls was a musical that could be described as very difficult to act within, due to the amount of emotions and changes Cady Heron went through within the story that I had to act. However, despite all that, Mean Girls was still a wonderful experience to be able to be apart of with the amazing cast and crew that supported my back through tough moments.” Said Vinnie Acosta, who played Cady.
We hope that the new generation blesses East with the same energy that this amazing cast gave, and that whoever walks on that stage absolutely tears the room down like Mean Girls did!
