You might be wondering, what is Fresh Faces? Well, it is more simple than you think. Morton West usually has two productions per year, One fall musical and One spring play. Yet Fresh Faces is a third chance to be on the Morton West stage! Fresh Faces is a student-written and directed project and opportunity that usually happens near the end of the school year. The really interesting thing about Fresh Faces is a NO-CUT SHOW, meaning anyone can audition if they want to! Auditions for actors will be held March 18th at 3:30pm in the auditorium if interested.
A really fun thing about fresh faces is that, this is an opportunity for students to put their creative minds to work, student directors are able to express whatever they please. There are certain requirements to becoming a student director which is as simple as being active in the theatre department and be a sophomore-senior. I asked Teacher Steinhaus on how they decided which scripts get chosen and which get cut. “Well, I choose based on the time limit, it shouldn’t be 2 hours, it should be less than 30 minutes. scripts that include a lot of people will be chosen compared to scripts with less people, we want to include everyone in fresh faces and make sure everyone has a chance. Then every show must be school-appropriate.”

Fresh Faces has not been around since 2022, which has been 3 years! most of the theatre department had a grand time, Maya Blanek a senior who has been doing theatre her whole Morton career expresses her fun with fresh faces. “Fresh faces was fun because people who usually weren’t in the department would be a part of the project! this is because it was much easier than a regular show. I met a whole bunch of people and I had the benefit of student directing as a freshman, which personally made it fun for me.”
