Somewhere in the depths of the Chicagoland Area, specifically in the vicinity of Berwyn, and by proxy, Morton West/East High School… The truest home of meat sits for years in history on route 66, on south Berwyn… a true sanctuary house of beef… Novi’s Beef.
Novi’s Beef has been home of beef in Berwyn since 1960, starting out as a “shack” in the corner of Ogden and Oak Park Ave, in the road famous Route 66. Founded by Nick “Novi,” he started history with an urge to make sandwiches for the community, and ended up being considered not only a South Berwyn suburb classic, but also a Chicagoland landmark (Chicago-land-mark if you will,) and since 1988, it’s ownership was passed down to the Lattas family, who kept true to his name of authentic quality, well priced food, and the love and thought put into their beef sandwiches, fries, gyros, and burgers… especially their burgers.
That’s right, the main focus of beef served at Novi’s in the eyes of many, alongside their beef sandwiches and gyros, is their delectable and most thought out burger, with so much love put into each one, so much planning out, and the speed and price of a simple cheeseburger, fries, medium Dr. Pepper with ice in a Styrofoam cup straight out of 2009, all for around $11.00 in total.
in favor of this restaurant being placed in Berwyn, it’s conveniently placed nearby of Morton West High School, for all the mustangs and mortonians in the world of Berwyn to stop by for a taste of history, and walk home in walkable distance. even teachers who don’t live in Berwyn love a taste of Novi’s beef. one of the top burgers in the land of burger.
“I’m very articular when it comes to my beef sandwich, my order is as follows: I call it the heart attack platter. it is a beef sausage combo, hot and sweet peppers, scuba’d with mozzarella and marinara. and they are never cheap with the beef” said teacher, an out of town teacher that enjoys the meaty Novi’s juiciness.
“it is the most delicious and cheesy burger that I’ve ever cheeseburgered,” said Declan Papanicholas “CHEESEburger.”
the Novi’s beef burger is one of their staples amongst the mustangs of the world. one of the right things to do is to analyze and have another bite of this staple in America.
Upon entrance, you walk into an authentically and family owned environment, and the meaty atmosphere is meshed well with the community coming in and out and inside the restaurant, all about to enjoy a meaty bunch. my search for the perfect meat is in the perfect burger. not even a long line, just a lowkey and small line to the two cash registers, a wide selection on both sides with crazy and unusual yet historical and classic drinks and snacks, and a menu up above with multiple options, the bacon cheeseburger being all the way on the left.
upon ordering, the service on ordering is quick, easy, and fast, at least when you’re a regular visitor and you know what you’re getting, since it’s the only item that quenches your hunger everytime you visit Novi’s: a cheeseburger with bacon, everything on it, with a side of fries, and a medium drink, filled to the brim with good ol’ Dr. Pepper.
after the wait, they bring you the food in a bag, and it would even be a kinder atmosphere if you throw in a tip for them anytime whenever you’re in there for less than 10 minutes, and make your travels back home.
This incredible and holy cheeseburger, made with love and compassion, and ordered by many, a majority of mustangs if you will.
“The bacon cheeseburger… so succulent, so juicy, and so ripe. The perfect concoction and truly one of the benefits of living in a capitalist society. I love it and it loves me.” said local student, Isaiah Arana.
As you return home, you open up the burger, and take your first bite, you taste not only the love of your home, the love of Berwyn, but the passion of Chicagoland as a whole, multiple miles of a community in that patty, the watery crunch of the lettuce and tomato brings together the authentic health to your body as a sort of belonging to this community, the bacon as an extra necessity to your life, putting a better lens on the world through your eyes, and the pickles making you feel stronger as it fizzes in your taste buds, and washing it
down with that Dr. Pepper represents the hygiene of life, as well as the community of smiles. This really is the perfect Berwyn burger, Chicagoland burger, and the definition of the perfect mustang burger.
Everyone that were asked for this review gave this burger a flawless and unhesitant 10/10.
“God bless Novi’s, God bless America, and follow my Instagram @_purplellama.” said Isaiah.
“Pretty based.” said Cassian, an OPRF student.
