Back in 1984, the top topic at the start of November was the presidential election between Ronald Reagan and Walter Mondale. Ronald Reagan’s presidential run in 1984 marked a major shift in American politics. He campaigned on conservative ideas, emphasizing the need for smaller government and a strong stance against communism. Reagan focused heavily on economic issues, promising tax cuts and less regulation to help boost the economy and reduce inflation. His charisma and ability to connect with everyday Americans played a key role in building a strong base of support. which is why he won the election by a large margin. winning by a 4:1 ratio against Walter Mondale out of of the 241 students polled, 158 voted for Reagan for a 71% total, 38 voted for Mondale. 20 preferred other candidates for 8%, while 25 students, or 10% were undecided. each grade level leaned toward Reagan’s side freshmen showing a 22:1 margin, sophomores 4:1, juniors 7:1, and seniors 6:1 which shows how the Republican political party was the favorite among Morton students.
