If you’re a senior this year, now’s the time to take a look at the scholarships that are being offered and see which scholarships are right for you. The Morton 201 Local Scholarship bulletin contains 16 scholarships and application has different requirements, such as the Carlos Escobedo Hard Work Pays Off Scholarship which requires applicants to have a minimum GPA of 3.25 and a two-page essay about how being a high school athlete has helped the student to keep their focus on future goals. Students who have questions about the Morton 201 Local Scholarships must speak to Ms. Nicole Ursetta, College and Career Guidance Counselor, or Mr. Giovannie Ortiz, College, and Career Center Liaison here at Morton West. The Morton 201 Local Scholarships are a financial opportunity for students to continue their education and figure out what their future holds after high school, by providing financial assistance.
Scholarships are important because if one of your plans after high school is to go to college, the scholarships you apply for will help you cover some expenses you might encounter in school. Mr. Ortiz said, “The Morton 201 Local Scholarships help with the financial side of things. College, as we all know, is not free, it’s not cheap, it’s very expensive. So, if you apply for scholarships, just hope that you can land, at least, $1,000 or $500 works as well. Scholarships take away the stress of going into college debt, so applying for scholarships would be beneficial when it comes to financial issues.” Building a student’s education is an important investment to make because the more students are prepared, the better understanding they’ll have for the careers they plan on pursuing in the future. The Morton 201 Local Scholarship is a helpful tool to start your loan-free journey to achieve your goal of getting into your dream school(s).
Any student who needs to find more information about scholarships can look at the Class of 2024 teams page, on Naviance, or students can research the scholarships they plan on taking. Ms. Bianca Cahue, a Guidance counselor here at Morton West, said, “Students who need to find more information about the scholarships can either look through our class of 2024 teams page, through Naviance, or you can do your own scholarship search as well.”
Students can also look into the colleges they’re interested in and see if the colleges have any scholarship programs. The more students are informed, the better chances they have to apply for financial assistance. Finally, you can reach out to family or friends who have attended a college to assist you with searching for scholarships. How you can do this is by searching online and looking up colleges that you are interested in attending and finding out if they offer scholarships.
Unfortunately, the scholarships will not be around forever because the deadline to apply for scholarships was March 17th before midnight. Mr. Ortiz said, “The deadline was March 17th, and the Morton 201 Local Scholarships are something that we’re only giving out to Morton West students. This is something that I find beneficial to our students here at Morton West. The Morton 201 Local Scholarships are not going to be nationwide that students are going to apply for, it’s only here at Morton West. So, I think students should jump onto the Morton 201 local scholarships now that they’re open.”
Do not wait until the last minute to start applying for scholarships. Take advantage of the time you have now and start choosing your favorite scholarships before they are taken.
