Seussical The Musical is singing and dancing its way to Morton West this November. The musical is currently in the early production process with the actors and crew members working extremely hard on both rehearsing and behind the scenes.

Jacob Aviles ’18, the lead actor who will be starring as Sour Kangaroo, gave his insight on the auditioning process of the musical, “The audition process was very nerve wrecking….”. Aviles originally auditioned for a smaller role and was shocked he got the lead role.

Following the auditions on August 23rd and 24th, the cast list became full and closed.  Most of the actors, such as our very own Jacob Aviles, are usually staying every day after school to rehearse, which is a very tedious process. Aviles states, “We can’t waste time, every minute is critical to making it a success.” Aviles states that at times the process may be stressful but it can also be very fun. Aviles boasted the best part of theatre is learning new things and being able to jump into things quickly.

Samantha Hernandez, a crew member involved in sound for the musical, explains her experience and perspective of being backstage, “…. We are all kind of like a family backstage, now once you got it all down and you’ve become familiar with everyone and everything, that’s when you can keep coming to get more hours…” According to Hernandez, “All the hours put in are worth it because crew will always be your second family.” Victor Velez, a fellow crew member, says the bond created during the production makes joining theatre worth it including spending the hours after school.  However, crew could not start building the set until the Morton West band had their final concert on October 5th. Now as the opening night approaches, the crew members are gathering to build the large movable set as they focus on getting the lights, sounds, and stage crew ready.

The play is still in the very early stages of production so, if you want to be involved in a school activity, you can still join crew! Just go to the auditorium after school and talk to Mr. Delmonico.
